Yes! Everyone is welcome to my classes, regardless of what stage of your Yoga journey you are on. You don’t need to be flexible or strong, you just have to be willing, interested and curious to try. I break down all poses into a staged approach, so you can stay at an earlier stage of the pose and as time goes on progress to the next stage. This also means that people who have Yoga experience can attend the same class. I work on strengthen and stretching muscles, so whilst moving in Yoga poses you are developing a range of movement and developing stronger muscles.

I teach Hatha Yoga and each class we will concentrate on a theme, be that a particular pose or a particular muscle. We then approach this in stages, so that you can really build up your understanding of where to place your foot, how to hold your shoulder, when to not lock your knee and when you can safely lock your knee. Every single  is unique, all bodies work slightly differently. My aim is to help you to understand how your own body moves and if you weren’t feeling that particular stretch (or feeling it too much!) offering modifications on how to adjust the move to most benefit you.

You will want to wear clothes that you can easily move in. Legging or baggy trousers that are relatively light would be fine. My studio is nice and warm so you’ll need a light top, but maybe bring a jumper that you can put on whilst you are in relaxation. You may also like to bring a blanket that you can cover yourself with or use as a pillow.

If attending in person, a group or one-to-one session for Yoga with myself, please do bring along a yoga mat. If you haven’t got a yoga mat and you’re not sure that yoga is definitely for you, just let me know and I would be happy to lend you a yoga mat until you decide you are as in love with Yoga as I am 😉 I do have equipment that you can use, but if you would prefer to bring your own blocks, bricks, belts… of course you would be welcome. You may also like to bring a water bottle.

Although you may feel a little sore the next day, Yoga shouldn’t feel painful. There is a difference between good pain and bad pain which I will help you recognise in our class. The sensation of stretching that you will get whilst moving into and holding a pose shouldn’t feel intensely painful. However, if it does and the modifications that I have offered still feel too painful, then you should gently release from the pose and let me know. We can think about what might be going on for you and consider alternatives. There are many adaptations that can be made to all movements, especially for people who have experienced injury.
